Ruminations…Again

If God is so smart and loves us so much, why did He make it so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose it? I’ve personally studied this phenomenon for years and sense an earthly conspiracy that may have corrupted God’s initial plans. All will be revealed, soon.

And we won’t mention teeth, but wasn’t titanium around when He designed the mouth?

The Republican Party should now be required to calculate and reveal how much the now 10-year search for voter fraud has cost American Taxpayers. Recent news reports say Trump and others have “hired” and then “fired” several private companies to review elections in several states, counties, and municipalities and expose fraud. Several Federal Agencies have been involved, too. Anyone seen any Fox News Reports?

Maybe Trump paid for the investigations, himself? If you are a donor to Republican Party PACS, you might want to see how your donations are being used given the results.

A lesson in hope was delivered to me, this week, and it was accepted. My car’s “Check Engine” light came on and the thought of a $1500 repair bill immediately joined it. But the nice people at my local auto parts store suggested it might not be an entire catalytic converter and offered  a bottled compound cleaner that may work well enough to clean the converter and get a few more months–possibly year–of “Check Engine” light relief. Even if it’s a scam, hoping for a $16 bottle cure is worth the risk. Sleep will be easy for the next few days as the cleaner runs it course. Either it works or more sleep will be lost later, stay tuned. BTW: Conspiracy? Extended warranty companies will NOT cover converter repair or replacement. Hm.

Give blood. It is one of easiest and most rewarding things you can do. Full disclosure, I am a volunteer Red Cross Blood Donation Ambassador and have a vested interest in your donation: saving lives. If you are medically able to donate, you can use an app that tracks your donation from collection to medical use. There’s nothing better than the last stage of your “Blood Journey” where the app not only shows where your blood went, but also this; “You’ve helped save more than one life.”

As a survivor and continuing student of The Calamities of 2023*, and now a regular blood donor, I am an expert on the drawing of blood. It may hurt my plea from the preceding paragraph, but can any big-brained, or mechanically-inclined brain, find an easier way to get the blood out of the body and into the tubes/bags or bottles? My exposed arms suggest multiple, suspicious injections to someone unaware** of the blood collection mechanics. Maybe we need a rating system for phlebotomists? Or some kind of shut-off valve.

I live in an area we can call Trump Country. At a recent public event there were lots of comments begging for a response. No, I did not to all, but to some, in case you’re curious. “I hated Joe Biden” was a frequent comment. I ask the speaker if they’d ever met Biden, but the point was lost when they answered in the negative and looked at me like I’d asked a stupid question.

“It sucks to live in California.” Me: “Have you ever lived there?” Trump supporter: “No.”

And for balance, one supporter said, “Trump is an asshole.” The supporter didn’t elaborate and I did not ask him/her/they the “Biden question”. What would be the point?

The real point is stop believing what you hear without learning more.

And hate never does anyone any good.

*As time passes, it’s become important to note the inception.

**Thankfully, most people are aware but still feel compelled to ask, “Did it hurt?” No, it didn’t, but the questioning is annoying.

Notable News, and Not All About Trump…But Some

The recent—March 2026–war in Iran is becoming an hot-button, circle-the-wagons political issue, so Vice President JD Vance announced there is a new “Whole of Government Crackdown” on fraud in the “benefits system.” No other quotes, just wonder…are they bringing back DOGE? Is Elon returning? What happened to all the FWA* (Fraud Waste and Abuse) they found in 2025? Did they miss some?

And will they focus on the billions of dollars of abuse in defense contracting and political consulting, or just the millions in Benefit Fraud?

Unrelated(?), there is an unverified report online detailing how much it costs when the President goes golfing. I ignored it and have no idea if it is about Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, or Trump. You’ve got a brain; you decide who the article is about. No, golf is not FWA. Why do you ask?

A 2024 study recently reviewed and updated in the journal “Nature”, reports sea level rise has been miscalculated: “99% of coastal sea level studies over the last two decades…have effectively missed about 10 inches of actual ocean height.” The lengthy report will put any non-scientist to sleep, but its main conclusion is we have never found a good way to estimate and then track actual sea level rise. Uh-oh. Buy any beach property lately? No? Then fugeddahabout it. But note how science works: it watches over and corrects itself, especially as we learn new ways to see and do things.

Tiger Woods did something. I didn’t bother to read that article, either,  but the headline was interesting. Hey, it’s Tiger. For God’s sake. It’s not like some scientist found a cure for cancer.

After years of internet news aggregator reads, I’ve found myself automatically avoiding news from certain sources and even looking for news specifically from other sources. My age gives it way but I look for a byline from sources like Time, Newsweek, Popular Mechanics, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, even Fox. You CAN trust legacy media to NOT report on and circulate non-news, and misinformation.** Yes, there will be a slant, spin, or bias, in their reporting but there will also be a grain of truth. Try it. So many of the “feeds” picked up by our news aggregators are from podcasts, lone wolves, and personalities. Sort them out and ignore them or read them with an eye to clicks instead of news. As if, right? Love those kitty videos.

Baseball is here. The Yankees. And some other teams. There is (famously) no crying in baseball but let’s see how long that holds true. There will be bleating, bellowing, moaning, yelling, excoriating, insulting, screaming…and lost sleep.

But no crying. Ah, summer in upstate NY.

Wonder how the Mets will do this year.

Buffalo Bills? Were you thinking of the Bills? Too soon. Don’t jinx them.

And no, no update on the Blinds. May start a GoFundMe page so stay tuned.

*per AI: “in the world of compliance and government oversight, ‘Fraud, Waste, and Abuse’ is a catch-all term to describe the various ways resources—most often taxpayer dollars or healthcare funds—are misused.

**They can get sued for it. Right, Fox? And maybe CBS? Jimmy Kimmel?

Waste. Fraud. Abuse.

For the sake of this short rant, we will consider those three words as one threat to America, for the conservation of space.

It’s time we all learned fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) is not a new, momentary, correctable problem. In fact, we need to  admit we can’t “eliminate” it. We can just do the best we can to mitigate it.

America’s economy is a Capitalist economy. AI describes Capitalism as “an economic system where individuals or businesses own the means of production and make decisions about what, how, and for whom to produce, with the goal of generating a profit. Key features include private property, free markets, competition, and relatively limited government intervention”

As you read this description, did the term “government intervention” seem to be in the wrong sentence with the words “free market”? And how about the words “relatively limited”? There are two major ways governments can intervene in any economy, with the end result in both often more of a hybrid mix.

One is by proactively deciding “what, how, and whom to produce for”, and make those decisions before any production starts. Picture a government directed economy much like China and Russia. (Loaded with FWA, by the way.)

Two is by monitoring “what, how, and for whom to produce” after production, and then setting a regulation for further production. Picture a business making and selling poison as a health cure. After a few deaths, a government would (hopefully) stop that business and regulate the future manufacture and sale of poison. Plus truth in packaging and advertising.

Another ambiguous term is “free markets”.  What free markets want is to be able to get away with making and selling poison marked as a health cure, only stopping when enough consumers stop buying it due to “competition”, an innocuous term defining how consumers “learn” about the product’s real properties (death) from the “free market” activity and stop purchasing. Picture a “consumer group”, after “X” number of deaths, organizing and advising people not to buy the “health cure”.

Neat. Tidy. Understand? The Theory is easy to understand, when we add FWA, some realism, to the plot, things get muddled.

FWA has been around since cavemen (Cavepeople?). Picture one caveman (Lou) desiring the other caveman’s (Abbot) food. Lou points to the sky, Abbott looks up, and Lou swipes the mammoth rib from Abbot’s hands. Fraud. Or Lou has some tasty berries, and Abbot has another meaty rib. Lou offers the berries to trade for the rib. Abbot declines, so Lou throws the berries away. A female nearby (Phyllis) has neither meat or berries and goes hungry. Waste. (Yes, a female was used on purpose.)

Phyllis finds the berries, cleans them up, and offers them to both Lou and Abbott as “fresh”. This could be both abuse and/or fraud. Abuse comes from using something for bad effect or purpose, so we’ll say Phyllis is abusing the current fireside free-market system.

The real point is as long as human beings are involved in any economic system, FWA will be a companion and will factor in the system’s functions. Even in Communism’s directed system. FWA is historical, unrelenting, and maybe important? Like plecos (sucker fish) cleaning the aquarium?

What can be done about FWA? First, it is very, very ignorant of both the nature of man and history of capitalism to think you can root it out, entirely. Trump, Musk and DOGGIE say they are doing it, but all they are doing is throwing out the bathwater with the baby, and new bathwater will get just as dirty very quickly no matter what baby you wash in it. That’s life when money and power are involved.

Free Markets need regulatory activity to work best for the population. Free Markets work best with post-activity government intervention. It’s akin to weeding a garden, as long as the weeds don’t infect the regulatory system. But you know how weeds are…same as FWA.

As small government MAGAns, and Republicans look to shrink the government and regulatory intervention, all hell is going to break lose as man’s (better? Nooo) nature is given free rein. Trump and Musk, however, are not being ignorant of human nature and history, they are using it to their advantage. They know a small government and a diminished regulatory framework is good for Trump and Musk, and people like them. At least 5 pre-2025 government “interventions” in Musk’s potentially illegal activities are now moot, as there is no one and no framework to investigate him. Ditto Trump.

And a large part of America still thinks Trump is good for them. Those are the people ignorant and unaware, with no grasp of mankind’s FWA history.

FWA can be caught and corrected, but never completely eliminated as long as man (and maybe a woman or two) see dollars signs and political power in whatever system they think they can manipulate. Know that, understand that, and don’t look away when it happens. In the meantime, profound waste has become normalized: compare professional sports salaries to your local teachers/cops/firemen. The Free Market at its finest.

And please, don’t fire the weeders. They are our only hope.

Voting Conspiracies and Numbers

As with all presidential elections, there are lots of “stories” floating around.

From available data, subject to MINOR changes as votes are still being counted, here are some numbers:

In 2016 there were 157,596,000 registered voters. 136,787,187 voted. 20,808,813 registered voters DID NOT VOTE.

In 2020 there were 168,308,000 registered voters. 158,487.688 voted. 9,826,312 registered voters DID NOT VOTE. Factoid: the total number of votes cast in 2020 nearly equals the entire registered voter population in 2016. Conspiracy?

In 2024 there were 186,500.000 registered voters as of 9/2024 per USA FACTS. 140,980,281 voted. A staggering 45,519,719 registered voters DID NOT VOTE.

A deeper research to federal election sites will show where all 2016 and 2020 these numbers come from and keep in mind 2024 numbers are still incomplete, but close enough for this discussion.

One conspiracy story says there were 20 million extra votes in 2020, proof of fraud. Numbers prove that conspiracy is wrong.

Both Trump and Harris (Biden) lost votes from their 2020 numbers…so far. And that should be the big story. Over 40 million registered voters did not vote. Why did they register? Or was it older voters who did not vote? Or was it aliens?

The numbers show registration efforts by both parties were successful between 2020 and 2024. But getting the new registrants to vote, not so much. Why?

It’s interesting to note Harris and Clinton got nearly the same number of votes, 8 years apart. And Trump got fewer votes in his 2024 victory than his record haul in 2020, when he lost.

Deeper research will be conducted by smarter people smarter than me but my opinion is since Harris in 2024 and Clinton in 2016 got the same number of votes, and Biden, got 13 million more in his 2020 election, there is a gender gap in the American voting system. Trump’s support was basically consistent with increased voter registration and his small 2024 loss, may be made up by late counting, making his vote totals understandable.

Numbers will never explain why over 62 million people voted for Trump not once, not twice, but probably three times. One of these days there will have to be a discussion on what may or may not disqualify a candidate from elected office. 2024 proved there is nothing, now.

Of note, Trump’s election sent the stock market soaring as corporations expect less regulation, lower taxes, and larger profits from the Trump years. For fun, google how much money billionaires made IN ONE DAY, from that market increase. Musk made the most, IN ONE DAY! Google it.
