It’s Finally Here

When Donald Trump was elected in 2024, it brought down a cascade of despair “unlike any one has ever seen” to borrow his own phrase. It was a perfect time for Democrats and Independents to finally understand the outrageous “despair” MAGAns felt about Biden after 2020. Remember when they were so distraught they stormed the Capitol and claimed—still believe–the election was stolen?

Anyone but MAGA, however, nestled into pupa stage after 2024 and waited in their Chrysalis for the 2026 Midterms. They demonstrated and talked and hollered and even called Trump and MAGA names, but wait, peacefully, they did.

Now, the fully-formed butterflies are bursting from confinement and getting ready to spread their wings.

There is a plethora of professional pundits profiting by preaching about modern political life. Have at it, boys and girls. Live long and prosper, especially in this tribe over truth world.

But there is an aspect of the entire circus that is heart-breaking and may or may not be an omen for not only the United States but the world: The forgotten and discarded decent politicians who could have worked together to save us from ourselves.

In the spirit of avoiding censure from ANY tribe, no names will be mentioned but hopefully smart people of both tribes, plus independents who are really independent, will recognize this fact: Good, decent, intelligent people running for office will never* get elected.

Better Conservative and Liberal Minds (BCALM) know the value of debate between the two, and how one makes the other better. BCALMs innately understand a difference is philosophy is NOT a reason to hate someone. Or fear them, especially in America.

We currently state if you don’t agree Joe’s Pizza is better than Donnie’s Pizza, you are an idiot, and vice versa. And angry partisans suggest you are un-American and need to be eliminated in figurative and sometimes literal ways. Is this analogy and symbolism enough to make you see the point or do I need to explain it? Yes, I’m comparing politics to pizza and using…

True beliefs are not Evil.** And not everyone whose belief is different from yours is Evil. (see footnote.)

It is a sad time for America and its politics when the tribe you belong to, not the beliefs you hold or the nature of your character, inspires voting choices. A mythical***, unintended consequence is a decent, moderate Conservative Republican in the fictional state of Greenland**** losing an election to a vile, despicable Liberal Democrat. Or vice versa.

We can all rise up and shout denunciations about a two-party system and how power corrupts, but that is an exhaust plume clouding our view and destroying the political ozone layer. The problem is us, the voter. Many well-intentioned butterflies and other vertebrates will vote today, and probably 96.788% of them will vote the Party/Tribe line.

We are truly a nation of dummies, brainless, mindless, insects.

But some of us sure look good.

*You might think I should use the word “rarely” but shut up and just enjoy the needless hyperbole.

**Again, not really a fact but a point. There are some beliefs not only evil but dastardly, as well. Extremes have no place in this essay or the world…maybe. Also, Evil capitalized for effect.

***Truly hyperbolic–but great–sarcasm.

****Yes, I went there. Not literally.

Funny Things In The News

Trump administration officials held a press conference in Minnesota to “trumpet” their finding a total of $85 million dollars of waste, fraud and abuse. When the participating Trump officials were asked about their paying $496 million in 2026 for a prison previously “offered” to the state of Minnesota in 2025 for $75 million, the answer was prompt and concise: “I don’t know about that.” An alleged rumor being gossiped about the internet is the owner of the prison is a Trump friend and contributor. After years of watching Mr. Trump before he ever became President Trump, the alleged rumor has the ring of truth, including the alleged rumor some of the $420 million “overpayment” managed–in some alleged rumored way–to benefit Trump or his family.

Sorry it took so long to get to it, the funny part is the last line of Trump Officials response: “asking that question is a waste of our time.”

And I’ll bet the State of Minnesota wishes they could have purchased the prison in 2025 and resold it in 2026. With all the waste, fraud and abuse in the state, the “extra” $420 million alleged rumored over-payment could have been put to good use.

Quantum Entanglement (QE) is close to being reality but its explanation is getting harder and harder to…explain.*  In a panel discussion, a scientist mentioned QE may work at millions of miles, even infinity. Okay, responded one participant, but how would you ever really know that? The question begat a wide-ranging discussion about how we can accurately know ANYTHING about things so far away we can’t see or touch them. I did hang around for the explanation, but it involved facts and formulas and calculations that did not need to be added to my old brain‘s storage capacity. A general filing rule from old office days is when a new fact goes into a system an old fact leaves.**

After years of claiming alleged rumored*** election stealing, our current administration has found a new dog whistle: “dirty tricks”. The venerable state of Alaska is the newest “battleground” where three candidates are running for governor. One is the non-allegedly rumored, elected incumbent. A second is the Democratic challenger, and the third is an allegedly rumored Independent who happens to have the same first and last name as the incumbent governor. Those of us with historical perspective have experienced third party candidates and how they affect elections. Google Ross Perot, Ralph Nader, and election vote totals for presidential elections in 2000 and 2016. Those recent elections benefited Republicans in races for President. Is it any wonder, then, Republicans fear a third party candidate in a Governor’s race in Alaska? Well, yes, it is. It’s Alaska. For Governor. Republicans say it is because the third-party guy has a name similar to the Republican Incumbent, making one wonder if there would be such a fuss if the allegedly rumored suspicious third party entry had a name similar to the Democratic candidate.  In any event, Trump’s people have proactively admitted they may not “certify” Alaskan election results due to the confusion. The meddling is premised on the fact Alaskan voters are not smart enough to know the difference, though Republican officials are loathe to say it out loud. It’s hurtful.

Isn’t it funny federal agencies are wasting tax payer time and money to try and mitigate disaster in a state election?

But since it’s mostly lawyers getting paid for nothing, who cares? It will all be part of a record GDP**** in a few months.

See? Isn’t that funny?

*No more trying here. Google it.

**And we have no quality control over which or what fact “has left the building.”

***In this day and age, “alleged rumored” is the only way to accurately—and legally–describe anything.

****Yes, they are counted. Can you imagine the monetary size of legal activity these last few years???
