Funny Things In The News

Trump administration officials held a press conference in Minnesota to “trumpet” their finding a total of $85 million dollars of waste, fraud and abuse. When the participating Trump officials were asked about their paying $496 million in 2026 for a prison previously “offered” to the state of Minnesota in 2025 for $75 million, the answer was prompt and concise: “I don’t know about that.” An alleged rumor being gossiped about the internet is the owner of the prison is a Trump friend and contributor. After years of watching Mr. Trump before he ever became President Trump, the alleged rumor has the ring of truth, including the alleged rumor some of the $420 million “overpayment” managed–in some alleged rumored way–to benefit Trump or his family.

Sorry it took so long to get to it, the funny part is the last line of Trump Officials response: “asking that question is a waste of our time.”

And I’ll bet the State of Minnesota wishes they could have purchased the prison in 2025 and resold it in 2026. With all the waste, fraud and abuse in the state, the “extra” $420 million alleged rumored over-payment could have been put to good use.

Quantum Entanglement (QE) is close to being reality but its explanation is getting harder and harder to…explain.*  In a panel discussion, a scientist mentioned QE may work at millions of miles, even infinity. Okay, responded one participant, but how would you ever really know that? The question begat a wide-ranging discussion about how we can accurately know ANYTHING about things so far away we can’t see or touch them. I did hang around for the explanation, but it involved facts and formulas and calculations that did not need to be added to my old brain‘s storage capacity. A general filing rule from old office days is when a new fact goes into a system an old fact leaves.**

After years of claiming alleged rumored*** election stealing, our current administration has found a new dog whistle: “dirty tricks”. The venerable state of Alaska is the newest “battleground” where three candidates are running for governor. One is the non-allegedly rumored, elected incumbent. A second is the Democratic challenger, and the third is an allegedly rumored Independent who happens to have the same first and last name as the incumbent governor. Those of us with historical perspective have experienced third party candidates and how they affect elections. Google Ross Perot, Ralph Nader, and election vote totals for presidential elections in 2000 and 2016. Those recent elections benefited Republicans in races for President. Is it any wonder, then, Republicans fear a third party candidate in a Governor’s race in Alaska? Well, yes, it is. It’s Alaska. For Governor. Republicans say it is because the third-party guy has a name similar to the Republican Incumbent, making one wonder if there would be such a fuss if the allegedly rumored suspicious third party entry had a name similar to the Democratic candidate.  In any event, Trump’s people have proactively admitted they may not “certify” Alaskan election results due to the confusion. The meddling is premised on the fact Alaskan voters are not smart enough to know the difference, though Republican officials are loathe to say it out loud. It’s hurtful.

Isn’t it funny federal agencies are wasting tax payer time and money to try and mitigate disaster in a state election?

But since it’s mostly lawyers getting paid for nothing, who cares? It will all be part of a record GDP**** in a few months.

See? Isn’t that funny?

*No more trying here. Google it.

**And we have no quality control over which or what fact “has left the building.”

***In this day and age, “alleged rumored” is the only way to accurately—and legally–describe anything.

****Yes, they are counted. Can you imagine the monetary size of legal activity these last few years???
